Education in Sustainable Development
Course
The module gives you competences in evaluating, planning and carrying out projects within a subject or cross-curricular subjects relating to teaching, or working with, sustainability.
Possible Combinations
This module can be combined with M1, M2 and/or M3 to make a 30 ECTS semester.
Please note that schedule conflicts may occur in the final timetable in which case students will be offered an alternative module.
Target Group
Danish or Exchange students from various faculties or programs of study who have been permitted to study at a university or a University College.
Purpose
The module gives you competences in evaluating, planning and carrying out projects within a subject or cross-curricular subjects relating to teaching, or working with, sustainability.
Focus is on
- different theories on sustainability
- the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals
- local and global ecological footprint
- sustainable resource utilization, e.g. sustainable food production
- interaction between people and technology
- didactic discussion on why and how to teach sustainable subjects
- developing materials and didactic designs for teaching sustainable subjects
- participate in a research project about students outputs and outcomes from the course
Proof of English proficiency
All applicants for this offer must show proof of English language proficiency. this can be done by submitting one of the accepted language certificates through the application form.
The accepted certificates and minimum requirements are:
- IELTS: Minimum score: 7
- TOEFL internet-based test: Minimum score: 95
- Cambridge ESOL examinations: Advanced/CAE or Proficiency/CPE - Grade: C, B or A
- Oxford Online Placement test: Minimum score: 85 overall + 85 in each subtest
The submitted certificates must not be older than 3 years to be considered valid.
If the applicant does not upload an English test, they will automatically be invited to complete an online test issued by UCL. Applicants may also be invited for an online interview upon our request.
Teaching Methods
All teaching and counselling is in oral and written English. Some part of the teaching will be in both Danish and English.
The module is project oriented and based on lectures by the teacher, peers, and guest lectures. These will be followed up with debate in class.
As well, there will be a number of excursions to visit schools, other institutions or companies working with sustainability. The impressions from excursions will be discussed and used in projects afterwards.
The projects will be presented, discussed and evaluated.
Conditions
In order to complete the module and obtain a certificate, the student has to:
- Participate in the lessons
- Participate in excursions
- Complete projects
- Present projects to internal (peers) and external partners (e.g. schools, kindergartens, companies)
- Give peer feedback to module products
Course days and times will be stipulated in a timetable, which will be available for students at or before semester start.
In order to participate, students must speak English at an advanced level (C level in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)).
Tuition Fee

Workload
The module consists of 16 course days (4 hours per course days) and group work with instructions.
Learning Outcome
The elements of the module are:
- Lectures on the topics of the module (see under Purpose of the Module)
- Debate and reflections on sustainability related to the lectures and excursions
- Excursions to schools, other institutions and companies that work with sustainability
- Presentation of the projects to peers and stakeholders
- Peer feedback
Examination
In order to complete the module and obtain a certificate, you have
- to attend the lessons
- to participate in and carry out a project
- to present a product at the end of the module together with your group or partner
Students will be awarded a grade of pass or fail for the module.
