English: Processes of Language Acquisition and Communicative Competencies (M2)


The module will focus on language learning, language acquisition and communicative competencies.

Target Group

Students of Education – Teacher Education, English as a second language or related disciplines


The module will focus on language learning, language acquisition and communicative competences.

Some of the themes are discourse and strategic competence, language learning strategies and communication strategies, receptive and productive skills, and inter-language development.

We will learn how to plan teaching, which encourages language acquisition.

We will discuss

  • the view of language (functional and communicative approach to language teaching),
  • the view of learning (age appropriate, practical learning, involving physical activity),
  • the view of didactics (“learning by doing”, self-determination), and
  • the view of subject (language and culture).

During the module, we will develop didactic designs for different age groups and class levels.

Teaching Methods

All teaching and counselling is in oral and written English. You will experience several different teaching methods such as lectures, presentations, dialogue, exchange of experiences, group work, independent studies, as well as portfolio work.

Throughout the module, we will integrate the use of ICT, creative forms of expression such as singing and physical activity in the teaching and didactic designs.


In order to complete the module and obtain a certificate, the student has to:

  • attend and participate actively in class
  • complete an extensive written exam – see below, please

Tuition Fee

Type of Activity

Theoretical and practical module.


Attend and actively participate in classes, individual study of the relevant literature for the module, group work, prepare presentations, assignments and complete a written exam. 

Learning Outcome and Objective

  • Plan, carry out, evaluate and develop teaching with focus on communication processes and strategies
  • Apply differentiated teaching strategies to the didactic designs for various class levels and pupils
  • Evaluate pupils’ interlanguage development by analysing pupils’ products

Work with learning goals and assessment.


There is a 5-hour on-site written exam testing your competence in developing didactic designs. The exam will also test your competences in genre and theory.

The module will be evaluated with a passed/failed denotation.
