Information for Incoming Exchange Students eligible for an Erasmus KA-171
This page contains information that is relevant to you, if you are a student from a partner institution and you have been elected eligible for an Erasmus KA-171 grant administered by UCL University College.
Your host institution is based in a country outside EU.
If you are an Erasmus KA-131 grant recipient, your grant is administered by your home institution and UCL plays no part in its administration.
This is the case, if your host institution is based in an EU/EEA country or Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Northern Macedonia, Serbia or Turkey.
Once you become eligible for this grant, the International Office at UCL will contact you via email and provide access to our Erasmus KA-171 grant portal. You will have to access the portal using the same credentials (email address and password) you have used to submit your original application at UCL.
The portal provides you with an overview of the amount reserved for your grant and will also guide you in completing the required documentation and tasks to receive the grant.
Besides the reserved amount for your grant, which is made of a monthly grant and travel support, you may be eligible for a fewer opportunities top-up of 250 €/month, if you match at least one of the following criteria:
- Students with disabilities, chronic illnesses or conditions requiring treatment. Both physical and mental conditions are included
- Parents to children under the age of 18. It is not a requirement that the child/children accompany their parent on mobility
- Students from ODA countries (list of Official development assistance countries from OECD) without a Danish representation who therefore need to cross a border to apply for a visa
- Students from institutions placed more than 1000 km from the nearest Danish representation
- Students from partner institutions in ODA countries who, during their stay in Denmark, incur housing costs excluding deposit that exceed 75% of their Erasmus+ grant excluding travel support
You can see in the grant portal if you already have been assigned this top-up, or if you have the possibility to apply for it.
If you want to apply for a fewer opportunity top-up, please do so as soon as possible and no later than the start date of your exchange, by writing to international@ucl.dk
Further documentation to verify a match with the criteria may be required.
Green travel is defined as a form of travel that uses low-emission modes of transport for the majority of the journey, such as bus, train, or carpooling.
If you choose to travel green to and from Denmark to participate in your planned exchange, you can apply for a green travel top-up to your Erasmus KA-171 grant.
Modes of transportation that are considered green
Green travel is defined as a form of travel that uses low emission means of transportation for the majority of the journey, such as bus, train, or carpooling.
Since ferry travel is among the most polluting forms of transport, ferries are not considered a green travel option.
Carpooling must be done together with at least another Erasmus mobility participant, to be considered green travel.
How to be eligible for a green travel top-up
A mobility participant who travels “green” for the majority of their return journey is eligible to receive the ‘green travel’ grant. The European Commission has clarified that if only one leg of the journey is “green” (i.e. 50% of the return journey), the participant is not eligible for the green travel grant/higher travel grant.
You can apply for a green travel top-up, by contacting UCL International Office. Further documentation for green travel may be required, together with a sworn declaration.
