Research Centre for Applied Health Sciences
The Research Centre for Applied Health Sciences works from practice-oriented and applied research perspectives aligned with current societal development.
We do this through sustainable, high-quality international research that strengthens health professionals in providing care, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation based on strong professional expertise for the benefit of all people.
At the Research Centre for Applied Health Sciences, nine Senior Scientists and a Head of Research are responsible for the centre’s day‑to‑day management. In addition, around 50 researchers and associate lecturers from the health education programmes are affiliated with the department and contribute to our research activities to varying degrees. Altogether, this corresponds to approximately 20 full‑time equivalents.
Practice‑oriented Research
Our research is grounded in a democratic view of humanity, based on respect, equality, and participation, as well as ethical and sustainable considerations founded on social responsibility and integrity through honest, transparent, and accountable research practices.
Our research spans education, clinical practice, other research environments, and civil society through committed involvement of partners and co‑researchers.
Through our research and dissemination, we help ensure that our graduates become co‑creators of a health practice based on up‑to‑date research knowledge and competencies.
We prioritize health research and knowledge sharing that makes a meaningful difference for citizens, patients, relatives, and staff in both the primary and secondary healthcare sectors.
Our research is organized into four strong programmes—Active Communities, Health, Rehabilitation and Ageing, Diagnostics and Safety, and Care and Nursing—which prioritize holistic and interdisciplinary health practice, as well as a sustained focus on patient safety and quality.
As an important contributor to a strong welfare society, the Research Centre for Applied Health Sciences is committed to developing relevant knowledge for a coherent healthcare system. Based on the major new reforms in the health and social sectors, we will strengthen research in proximity and equality in health, prevention, digital competencies and technological literacy, as well as the improvement of psychiatric care across programmes and disciplines.
We collaborate with municipalities, regions, national and international universities, other university colleges, and UCL’s other research departments.
UCL also contributes to research through NAMU—a national center for applied research among older citizens living with multimorbidity. NAMU is a center established across the six Danish university colleges. Read more by clicking here.
